Dear Member,
CHANGES IN AMREF AIR AMBULANCE SHORT-TERM COVER
We trust this finds you well.
At the 2022 KATO AGM, we received presentations from two of our Corporate partners – AMREF Flying Doctors and Pesapal.
In their presentation, AMREF Flying Doctors (AFD) indicated that the low-cost scheme designed for Tour & Safari Operators, Hotels & Lodges that facilitates quick short-term access to medical evacuation while in East Africa (Scheme B) has been experiencing challenges. These include delays occasioned by the requirement for travel insurance details and some insurance companies have not been honouring payments after evacuations.
AFD informed the AGM that they propose to discontinue “Scheme B” by 31st December 2022. Tour Operators will however still be able to access AFD services through the Maisha Tourist cover but at the new rate of $10 for KATO Members.
To ensure a smooth transition after 31st December, 2022, AFD will accept all 2023 Scheme B bookings that will have already been booked by 31st December 2022. These will be charged at the old rate but bookings made from 1st January 2023 will be accepted under the new Maisha Tourist cover rates.
Members with any questions or needing further clarification are encouraged to feel free to contact AFD on the following emails:
tourist.scheme@flydoc.org and sales@flydoc.org
Kind regards,
